ATLANTA– – Georgia Tech defensive end Greg Gathers and placekicker Luke Manget earned weekly honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference following the Yellow Jackets’ 37-10 victory over Duke.
No. 15 Tech (4-1, 1-1 ACC) continues preparations for undefeated and 20th-ranked Maryland (5-0, 3-0), which visits Bobby Dodd Stadium/Grant Field for a nationally-televised (ESPN) contest Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Gathers was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week after he had eight tackles, two quarterback sacks, and three tackles for loss against the Blue Devils. The junior from LaPlace, La., accumulated 16 yards of losses in his two sacks of Duke quarterback D. Bryant, and he was also credited with two quarterback pressures. The Yellow Jackets held Duke to just 73 yards of offense in the second half.
Gathers leads the ACC with seven quarterback sacks this season. He has 27 for his career and needs just two more to break the Tech career record of 28.5, set by Coleman Rudolph.
Tabbed the ACC Specialist of the Week, Manget kicked three field goals and four extra points for a perfect against Duke. The junior from Conyers, Ga., hit on field goals from 43, 26, and 27 yards, as well as extending his consecutive PAT streak to 113.
The ACC’s leading scorer with 9.8 points per game, Manget has made 31 of 32 placements this season, nailing nine of 10 field goals as well as 22 of 22 extra points.
