GALLERY: Jackets Spend the Day in Dubrovnik

Georgia Tech women’s basketball continued its 10-day foreign tour to Croatia and Spain. After spending three days in Split, Croatia, the group is in Dubrovnik for three days.

DAY 6: Dubrovnik, Croatia
Saturday, Aug. 12

10 a.m. – The group spent their final day in Dubrovnik on Saturday. The morning started with the team having the option to visit a pair of beaches, Bellevue Beach or Banje Beach, or spend their free morning exploring Dubrovnik.

1:30 p.m. – A popular excursion in Dubrovnik, the group participated in a two-hour kayaking tour around Lokrum Island and in the open water of the Adriatic Sea. The tour had multiple stops, offering the party opportunities to swim and cliff jump.

DAY 5: Dubrovnik, Croatia
Friday, Aug. 11

10 a.m. – The group enjoyed one of the best views of Dubrovnik by taking a trip up SRD Hill via cable cars. SRD Hill is a mountain directly behind the walled city that features Fort Imperial and 360 degree views of Dubrovnik, Lokrum Island, Bosnia and surrounding areas.

2:30 p.m. – The team walked down to a local restaurant for a pre-game meal, enjoying local cuisine.

6:30 p.m. – The Yellow Jackets played game two of the trip, defeating Dubrovnik Select, 68-54. Three Jackets finished in double-figures, led by Kayla Blackshear with 18 points. Kara Dunn followed with 14 points and Tonie Morgan with 10 points. Blackshear took control of the second quarter, scoring 11 points. She finished 6-of-7 from the field and pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds. Morgan finished with nine rebounds and led the Jackets with five assists.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

DAY 4: Travel from Split to Dubrovnik, Croatia
Thursday, Aug. 10

9:30 a.m. – The travel party departed Split, traveling to Dubrovnik with a stop in Ston, Croatia, which is known for three primary things – well preserved town walls, salt pans and mussels.

12-2 p.m. – Following lunch in Ston, members of the travel group climbed a portion of Ston Wall, which stretches 5 kilometers in length, making it one of the largest defensive structures in Europe. The walls were built in the 14th and 15th centuries as defense and to protect the salt pans.

5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. – Guided walking tour of Dubrovnik, including Old City and scenes from Game of Thrones, which was filmed primarily in Dubrovnik. Often referred to as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’, Old City is a highly preserved medieval city that is surrounded by stone walls. Along the tour, the group saw Dubrovnik’s Baroque churches, monasteries and palaces. Also highlighted on the walking tour was a stop at the City Wall Rooftop Court, which was voted best designed basketball court in the world, nestled between the stone walls with an overlook of the Adriatic Sea.
