Four Yellow Jackets Set For NCAA Championships

THE FLATS – Four Georgia Tech track and field athletes head to Eugene, Ore. to compete in the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships, which take place June 11-14 at Oregon’s Hayward Field. Seniors Julienne McKee and Jonathan Gardner, and juniors Nikita Kirillov and Jeremy Greenwald will represent Georgia Tech at the national meet.

Kirillov kicks off action for the Jackets Wednesday with the pole vault finals at 7 p.m. ET. McKee, a four-time NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifier, takes on her first of two events with the long jump at 7:15 p.m. ET.

Kirillov is set to compete in his first NCAA Championships after a third-place showing and a height of 5.32m (17-5.50) in the NCAA East preliminaries.  

McKee, who will also compete in the triple jump on Friday at 6:25 p.m. ET, leaped to a distance of 6.25m (20-6.25) in the long jump to place sixth at the NCAA East Preliminaries.

McKee added a second event to her NCAA schedule with the triple jump after a qualifying and career-best leap of 13.25m (43-5.75) for fourth place in the preliminaries..

Greenwald runs the 1,500-meter semifinals on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET with the finals set for Saturday at 5:18 p.m. ET. Greenwald earned his first career trip the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:45.79 and a top-five place in his heat in the preliminaries.

Gardner wraps up the Jackets’ time in Eugene with the men’s triple jump Saturday at 3:30 p.m.  The Chicago, Ill., native placed seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 15.86m (52-0.50) to earn a trip to his second career NCAA Outdoor Championships.

ESPN Networks will cover every day of the meet, with Wednesday and Thursday being broadcast on ESPN3, starting at 6:55 p.m. ET. Events on Friday and Saturday will be broadcast live ESPNU starting at 7:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., respectively.
