After playing in the NCAA Tournament for each of the past four years as a member of the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team, former Yellow Jacket standout Alex Montgomery will get a new taste of postseason action in her first year as a member of the WNBA’s New York Liberty.
The Liberty earned the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 19-15 regular season record and will face the East’s top-seeded Indiana Fever in a conference semifinal series to begin on Thursday, Sept. 15 in Indianapolis. The playoff opener will be televised live at 8 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2.
“This is my first playoff game in the WNBA,” Montgomery said. “We’ve played Indiana a few times already this season. We beat them in the regular season, so I know we’re capable of doing it again. We know we have to be aggressive and attack. We don’t think we have anything to prove because anyone can beat anyone.
“I’m really excited,” Montgomery added. “I’m a rookie. This is my first playoff game ever. I’m not nervous at all. I’m ready to get in there and show them what I got.”
