April 11, 2005

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech standouts Brian Ford, Jeff Kindel, Dasha Potapova and Jessica Sallinger were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, April 11, 2005.

Ford, a senior from Ashland, Va., led Georgia Tech at the Clemson Invitational last Saturday. Ford, a native of Ashland, Va., ran a NCAA Region qualifying time of 21.18 in the men’s 200-meter dash to finish in second place. Ford posted a time of 47.57 in the men’s 400 to finish the race in third place and ran a leg of the 4x400m relay team that clocked a season-best time of 3:10.24, finishing second.

Kindel, a junior from Marietta, Ga., hit .462 with 10 RBI to lead Georgia Tech to a 3-1 record versus No. 16 Auburn and Winthrop. He went 6-for-13 with a double and posted a .588 on base percentage as he drew one walk and was hut by three pitches. Kindel had four RBI on both Saturday and Sunday against Winthrop. A former pitcher who had six career at bats prior to 2005, Kindel is batting .376 (38-for-101) with 13 doubles and 31 RBI this season.

Potapova, a senior from Moscow, Russia, won the final match at No. 2 singles in a third-set tie breaker to give Tech a 4-3 victory over No. 9 Miami. With the win, the Jackets improve to 8-0 in conference play, the best record in school history. Earlier in the week, she posted a three set super tie-breaker win against Florida State.

Sallinger, a senior from Kennesaw, Ga., led the 21st-ranked Yellow Jackets to an Atlantic Coast Conference sweep over NC State this past weekend. Sallinger, a native of Kennesaw, Ga., became the 40th pitcher in NCAA history to reach 100 career wins, and the second player in ACC history, with her 13th shutout of the season, scattering three hits and striking out 12, in a Tech 4-0 win over the Wolfpack on Saturday.
