Football Notebook: "Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate" Sold Out

Sept. 18, 2017

THE FLATS – Just hours after the final remaining tickets went on sale to Alexander-Tharpe Fund donors, Georgia Tech football’s regular-season finale versus archrival Georgia is officially sold out, GT athletics announced on Monday afternoon.

An extremely limited number of remaining tickets for the 112th edition of “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate,” set for Nov. 25 at Bobby Dodd Stadium, were made available to current A-T Fund donors at 10 a.m. Monday. By 4 p.m., the tickets were gone, making the annual Georgia Tech-Georgia showdown a sellout for the 21st-consecutive season.

The last non-sellout in the rivalry came in 1996 (78,062 at then-86,117-seat Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga.). The last time that Georgia Tech hosted a non-sellout for “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate” came in 1979 (48,781 at then-58,121-seat Grant Field).

With the sellout, Georgia Tech’s six-game season-ticket packages (which included all six games played at Bobby Dodd Stadium this season) are also sold out. Tickets for the Yellow Jackets’ four Atlantic Coast Conference home games (Saturday vs. Pitt, Sept. 30 vs. North Carolina, Oct. 21 vs. Wake Forest and Nov. 11 vs. Virginia Tech) remain on sale — click HERE to purchase tickets online.

The Alexander-Tharpe Fund serves as the primary fundraising arm of Georgia Tech athletics and strives to fund all athletic scholarships for GT student-athletes through philanthropy. Benefits of being an A-T Fund donor include priority for football and men’s basketball tickets and parking, invitations to special events and much more, while also giving donors the opportunity to directly impact the lives of Georgia Tech student-athletes.

GEORGIA TECH-NORTH CAROLINA TO AIR ON ESPN2: Georgia Tech’s Sept. 30 home game versus North Carolina will be televised live on ESPN2, the ACC announced on Monday. Kickoff is set for noon at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

The national telecast will be Georgia Tech’s second of the 2017 season. More than five million viewers tuned in for the Yellow Jackets’ Sept. 4 season opener versus Tennessee on ESPN. The effects of Hurricane Irma have wiped out two national television appearances — last Saturday’s canceled game at UCF, which was scheduled to be televised on ESPNEWS, and the Oct. 12 contest at Miami, which was slated to air on ESPN but has been postponed to Saturday, Oct. 14.

The Sept. 30 matchup versus North Carolina is Georgia Tech’s annual Whiteout game. Click HERE to purchase an official Georgia Tech Whiteout t-shirt.
