THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets finished the 2014 season ranked No. 7 in the final Amway USA TODAY Sports Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday afternoon. Earlier in the day, the Jackets finished No. 8 in the final AP Top 25 Poll.
Georgia Tech (11-3) finished the season ranked in the top 10 of both the AP and coaches polls for the first time since 1990. That year, the Jackets finished No. 2 in the final AP and No. 1 in the final coaches polls. Tech’s No. 7 ranking is its highest final coaches ranking since USA TODAY took over the poll in 1991. Prior to that year, United Press sponsored the coaches poll from 1950-57 and UPI from 1958-90.
It is the eighth time in program history that Georgia Tech has finished in the top 10 of the final coaches poll.
Georgia Tech (11-3) concluded its historic 2014 season with a 49-34 win over Mississippi State in the Capital One Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve. The Jackets also finished the 2014 season as the nation’s leader in rushing offense (342.1) and third-down conversion (57.9 percent).
Purchasing information for 2015 Georgia Tech football season tickets will be made available soon.
