Five Yellow Jackets Named to 2011 All-ACC Academic Baseball Team

June 17, 2011

ATLANTA – Five Yellow Jackets – Luke Bard, Jed Bradley, Sam Dove, Zane Evans and Brandon Thomas – have been named to the 2011 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Baseball Team, as announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford.

Esch was named to the squad for the second-straight year, while Bard, Bradley, Evans and Thomas received the honor for the first time in their careers. Since 2006 (the first year of the academic squad), Tech has placed 29 players on the All-ACC Academic Baseball Team, with at least four on the squad each year.

Evans joins former Yellow Jacket Tony Plagman (2007-2010) as the only two Tech players to ever make the squad as freshmen. Plagman was named to the team as a newcomer in 2007.

Clemson led all ACC schools with 11 student-athletes on the 2011 squad, while Tech was second with its five members on the team.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned at least a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained at least a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. The voting committee also considers athletic achievement and game participation when selecting the team.
