Jahmyr Gibbs needs just 200 all-purpose yards over the final two games of the season to set a new Georgia Tech record for single-season all-purpose yards. Gibbs’ 1,680 all-purpose yards this season currently rank fourth in Tech history, 199 behind the 1,879 yards compiled by Eddie Lee Ivery in 1978.
Top Storylines
• Georgia Tech football opens a grueling close to its 2021 season when it travels to No. 6 Notre Dame for a non-conference matchup on Saturday.
• Georgia Tech is looking to snap a four-game losing streak in what has been a heartbreaking season for the Yellow Jackets.
• Despite its 3-7 record, Tech has been outscored by a total of just 14 points (302-288) over the course of its first 10 games, good for an average final score of 30-29. Four of the Jackets’ seven losses have been within one score and six of the seven defeats have come by 11 points or less.
• The Yellow Jackets’ latest frustrating loss was a 41-30 defeat last Saturday versus Boston College. Tech trailed just 31-30 late in the fourth quarter but BC scored 10 points in the final three minutes of the game to seal the victory. As has been the case for much of the second half of the season, explosive plays surrendered were the Jackets’ undoing in the loss, as they allowed the Eagles to convert on third-and-9 or longer on three of their five touchdown drives.
• A bright spot for Georgia Tech remains Fr. RB Jahmyr Gibbs. Gibbs, who ranks second nationally with 1,680 all-purpose yards this season, has amassed 200-plus yards in each of the past three games and has had a play of 50 yards or longer in each of the past six contests, including a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown last Saturday versus BC.
• Georgia Tech and Notre Dame are meeting for the 37th time on the gridiron. ND holds a 29-6-1 lead in the all-time series, including a 31-13 victory on Oct. 31 of last season at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
• However, the Yellow Jackets and Fighting Irish have split their last two meetings at Notre Dame Stadium, with the Jackets throttling the Irish, 33-3, on Sept. 1, 2007 and ND escaping with a 30-22 win over Tech on Sept. 19, 2015.
