Fans will get an early look at the Georgia Tech men and women’s basketball teams at Saturday’s HoopsFest, an event benefiting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. HoopsFest will be held at Alexander Memorial Coliseum from 1 to 3 p.m.
In addition to seeing both the Yellow Jacket men and women in scrimmage games, spectators of all ages will have the change to participate in contests and earn prizes. Afterwards, all Tech players will be available to sign autographs and pose for photos.
The men are led by senior point guard Tony Akins of Lilburn, Ga., who led the Jackets in scoring last season with 14.5 points per game, and sophomore Marvin Lewis, who posted 8.7 points per game as a rookie. This event also will be the first chance for fans to see Tech’s five freshmen in action.
The Yellow Jacket women will be paced by seniors Regina Tate, who returns after missing last season due to injury, and Milli Martinez, who averaged 13.2 points per outing a year ago. Tate averaged 6.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in the 1999-2000 season.
Admission to the event is free, but donations will be accepted on behalf of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
