Volleyball standout Kele Eveland is one of four finalists announced for the 2003-04 Volleyball Honda Sports Award. The first team all-American is joined by Ogonna Nnamani (Stanford), April Ross (Southern California) and Kim Willoughby (Hawaii). The winner, after nationwide balloting, will becomine a nominee for The Honda-Broderick Cup awarded annually to the nation’s outstanding collegiate female athlete of the year at the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year Banquet to be held June 14, 2004 in Orlando during the NACDA convention.
Eveland becomes the first female from Georgia Tech to ever be nominated for the prestigious award.
Eveland, a 5-11 setter from Grand Rapids, Mich., recently completed her successful career by leading Georgia Tech to an appearance in the Elite Eight in this year’s NCAA Tournament. Eveland, who led the nation in assists per game this season averaging 14.93 per game, became the Jackets’ first-ever AVCA first-team all-American and finished her career ranked fourth on the NCAA career assist list with 6,464.
A third-team academic all-American, Eveland boasts a 3.75 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Management.
In addition to the honor of this selection, American Honda will donate $1,000 to the women’s athletic fund of each nominee’s university. The school of the winner will receive $5,000.
