Elder & Eveland Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Dec. 15, 2003

Men’s basketball player B.J. Elder and volleyball standout Kele Eveland were named the Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, December 15, 2003.

Elder, a junior from Madison, Ga., scored a game-high 17 points to lead No. 10 Georgia Tech to a 75-62 victory over Saint Louis Saturday at Philips Arena, which improved the Yellow Jackets to 8-0 on the season. He made 6-of-12 shots from the floor, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. He finished the game with four assists, four steals and no turnovers in 28 minutes of play. Elder fueled a 33-13 Tech run in the first 10 minutes of the second half, scoring two quick baskets and recording all four of his steals, all leading to Tech baskets, as the Jackets opened a 23-point lead and coasted from there.

Eveland, a senior from Grand Rapids, Mich., led the volleyball team to the Elite Eight for the first time in school and conference history. She recorded only the second triple-double of her career with 11 kills, 52 assists and 12 digs in a Georgia Tech win against No. 8 California in the Sweet 16 in Hawaii. Eveland, who was the 2003 ACC Player of the Year, was one of four Yellow Jacket players to garner American Volleyball Collegiate Association all-region honors.
