ATLANTA – Georgia Tech senior punter Durant Brooks and junior defensive tackle Vance Walker were each named to Rivals.com All-American teams announced today. Brooks was a first-team pick while Walker earned third-team honors.
Brooks, who has the highest career punting average in ACC history, is one of three finalists for the Ray Guy Award as the nation’s top punter, which will be announced Dec. 6, in Orlando (7:30 p.m./ESPN). He was a first-team All-ACC selection and ranks fourth in the nation in punting with a 45.62 average. Thirty of Brooks’ 61 punts have pinned the opposition inside the 20-yard line, including a career-high 77-yarder against North Carolina. Opponents have returned only 20 of Brooks’ punts for an average of 7.0 yards.
Walker was also a first-team All-ACC selection after leading Tech with 8.5 sacks. One of the ACC’s most improved players, Walker also has 14 tackles-for-loss, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He is tied for 31st in the nation in sacks and tied for 45th in tackles for loss.
