TERRE HAUTE, IND. – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country team took part in the Pre-NCAA meet on Saturday morning. The event was run on the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country course on the campus of Indiana State.
The Yellow Jacket men’s team finished 31st in the event, while the women’s squad placed 36th. On the men’s side, Oregon was the top finisher on the day with a combined time of 120:35.8, while for the women, Washington took home the top spot in 104:11.8.
For the Yellow Jacket women, sophomore Mary Kate DuBard was the top finisher on the day, running the 6k course in a time of 21:58 to register an 84th place finish. The effort by Dubard marked the second straight year that she was the top finisher for the Yellow Jackets at the Pre-NCAA meet.
Other top finishers for the women included junior Felicity Brower, who finished 225th overall with a time of 23:57, while senior Veronica Kinard placed 231st in a time of 24:09. Teammate Elena Hubbard finished right behind Kinard in 232nd with a time of 24:10.
On the men’s side, the Yellow Jackets’ top finisher was senior Billy Mateker, who ran the 8k course in 25:64 to finish 142nd. Junior D.J. McMillan ran the course in 25:58 to place 168th, while senior Greg Johnson finished 192nd with a time of 26:11.
The Yellow Jackets return to the course on Saturday, Oct 31st when they take part in the 2009 ACC Championships in Cary, N.C.
