ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis doubles pairing, juniors Michael Kay and Daniel Yun advanced to the semifinals at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships by winning two matches on Sunday morning. The semifinals and finals will be held on Monday.

Singles Update: Carlos Benito competed against Florida’s Johannes Ingildsen in the quarterfinals on Sunday morning. Ingildsen took the match over Benito, 6-3, 6-3. In the consolation bracket, sophomore Phillip Gresk was defeated by UCF’s Nicolo de Fraia, 6-4, 6-0.

Doubles Update: Michael Kay and Daniel Yun secured wins in two matches on Sunday to advance to the division one semifinals on Monday. In the round of 16, the pair topped Pritchard and Castellanos from Kennesaw State, 6-2. The Georgia natives defeated Schipanshi and Valero of Tennessee in the quarterfinals to secure a match on Monday. The pair will face Florida’s Orkin and Lipman at 10 a.m. Monday morning. Freshman Chris Yun and senior Cole Fiegel fell to Georgia State’s MacFarlane and Jaworski in the round of 16, 6-2.

Head coach Kenny Thorne says: “Daniel and Michael played solid in doubles today. They beat two good teams to make the semifinals. Christopher Yun lost a close three-set match to Max Lipman of Florida and played exactly the way he needs to play in order to be an impact player. Those were the main positives of the day. We are not where we need to be in order to reach our goals. However, we are closer at this point of the season than at the same point last season. Fortunately, we get to start team practice on Tuesday and we are looking forward to it.”
