CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Georgia Tech track and field team wrapped up the second day of competition Friday at the 2014 Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field championships at North Carolina’s Belk Track, Fetzer Field and Finley Field.
Brandon Lasater and Zack Fanelty qualified for the finals in the 800 meters set for Saturday at 5:50 p.m. Lasater recorded a time of 1:49.71 to earn a spot in the finals and Fanelty won his heat in a time of 1:50.37 for an automatic qualifying spot. Shawn Roberts took 10th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:50.15.
Spencer Allen ran in the men’s 110-hurdle preliminaries and finished ninth with a time of 14.39, two one hundredths of a second from qualifying for the final round.
Christina Pensock ran the 400 preliminaries in a season-best time of 57.39. On the men’s side, Alexander Reese ran the 400 meters in a time of 51.50.
In the field events, Samantha Becker placed ninth in the pole vault with a height of 3.83m (12-06.75)Ashleigh Uhl took 14th in the javelin throw (34.87m; 114-5).
Action continues at the ACC Championships Saturday as the competition focuses on the final running events beginning at 4 p.m. with the 4×100-meter relays, as well as the final field events for men’s javelin and pole vault, women’s high jump and men’s and women’s triple jumps.
