ATLANTA- Georgia Tech women’s basketball sophomore Kaela Davis has been named to the Naismith Trophy Women’s Midseason 30 list, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Wednesday.
Davis is just one of six ACC players and one of seven sophomores on the midseason top-30 list for the Naismith Trophy. Davis was also honored this season on the Wooden Award Preseason Top 30. Prior to her sophomore season, Davis was named to the Preseason All-ACC team by both the media and leagues’ head coaches. She is also a nominee for the All-State WBCA Good Works Team.
In March, the Naismith Trophy voting academy will vote to narrow the list to ten semifinalists and then four finalists. The Naismith Women’s College Player of the Year presented by AT&T will be awarded during the 2014 Women’s Final Four in Tampa.
Davis has been nothing short of impressive in her second season for the Jackets, averaging 20.6 points per game which leads the team and is second in the ACC. Her scoring average puts her at 21st in the nation. She leads all ACC players in scoring in conference games with 19.7 points per game. Davis became the fastest GT player to score 1,000 career points after scoring 24 pts at Notre Dame. She broke the record of 55 games, scoring 1,000 points in 52 games. She currently has 1,088 career points which ranks 21st on Georgia Tech’s all-time scoring list.
The Suwanee, Ga. native, has scored in double figures in 23 out of 24 games this season and has scored at least 20 points in 12 games. Davis has recorded four 30 point games this season including a career-high 35 points against LA Tech. Davis is just one of three Yellow Jackets to have recorded at least four 30 point games in a single season.
Along with her 20.6 points per game, Davis is averaging 5.6 rebounds per game, 1.6 assists per game and 1.5 steals per game. She has led the Jackets in scoring in 16 games and in rebounding in four games.
