THE FLATS – Sophomore Kaela Davis of the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team has been honored on John R. Wooden Award Women’s Preseason Top 30 list.
The Wooden Award preseason list is comprised of 30 student-athletes who, based on last year’s individual performance and team records, are the early front-runners for college basketball’s most prestigious honor. The list is chosen by a preseason poll of national college women’s basketball media members.
Davis is one of six ACC student-athletes that have been tabbed on the list and is just one of six sophomores that have been recognized.
Davis leads the Yellow Jackets in scoring, averaging 18.5 points per game. Her 18.5 points per game rank sixth in the ACC. Her 7.3 rebounds per game is third-best on the team.
Davis extended her double-figure scoring streak to 16-straight games after leading the Yellow Jackets with 20 points against #24 Georgia. Her 20 points marked her 16th time in her career that she has hit the 20-point mark and was the 18th time in her career and third time this season that she has led the Jackets in scoring. Davis has scored in double-figures in all four games this season and has two 20-point games including the 22 points she scored against Morgan State. Davis has scored in double figures in 33 games in her 36-game career.
The Suwanee, Ga. native was honored on the Preseason All-ACC Team by both the media and coaches. After a record-setting freshman season in 2013-14, Davis was honored on the All-ACC Second Team and the All-ACC Freshman Team.
The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team returns to action tomorrow night against Grambling State at 7 p.m. at McCamish Pavilion. Fans can bring a canned good donation and receive a $3 ticket.
