For the third time this season, freshman Kaela Davis has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Davis averaged 25.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg and 3.5 made 3-pointers a game this past week as the Jackets went 1-1. Against #6 Maryland, Davis scored 27 points, including 16 points in the first half alone, helping the Jackets to a 44-43 lead at the half. The Suwanee, Ga. native made five 3-pointers at Maryland. Davis notched 23 points in the win against Wake Forest on Thursday.
The freshman led the Yellow Jackets in scoring in both games, recording her seventh and eighth games of the season scoring at least 20 points. She has led the Jackets in scoring in a team-high 10 games this season.
Davis is averaging 18.8 ppg in ACC games through her first five conference games. She leads the Jackets in scoring, averaging 18.6 points per game and averages 5.8 rebounds per game. Davis’ 18.6 ppg ranks third in the ACC and her 2.6 3-pointers made per game ranks fifth.
Davis was previously named the ACC Rookie of the Week during the weeks of Nov. 11 and Dec. 9.
The Yellow Jackets are on the road again this Thursday, playing at Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. Tech then returns home this Sunday, to host #23 N.C. State at 2 p.m. at McCamish Pavilion. Every Sunday is Kids Day at women’s basketball games, so all children 18 and under will receive free admission. There is also a Kids Zone that begins at 1 p.m. that features inflatables, a DJ and much more.
