Danielle Dike Named ACC Player Of The Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech sophomore third baseman Danielle Dike has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week the league office announced this afternoon. This is the first career honor for Dike and seventh time this season a Yellow Jacket has been the recipient of a Player of the Week award.

The Scottsville, Va., native batted .500 (6-for-12) on the week and had two game-winning hits for the Yellow Jackets in the weekend series against Florida State. She scored four runs, had three home runs, five RBI, a walk and a hit by pitch as well on the weekend. Dike slugged 1.250 and had an on-base percentage of .571 in helping Tech clinch its second straight ACC regular season title.

Dike had three hits, including two home runs, in Game One of the Florida State series. Her first home run of the game put the Jackets ahead for good, 2-1 in the fourth inning. It was her second career multi-home run game. In Game Two of the series, Dike homered in the sixth inning to put Tech on top, but the Seminoles rallied late to win. In the series finale, Dike came up in the top of the fifth inning in a tie game with the bases loaded and two outs and delivered a two-run single to left field.

Dike and the Yellow Jackets (43-8, 16-2 ACC) will play their final four regular season games this week. Up first is a 7 p.m. ET game at No. 4 Alabama Wednesday night. Georgia Tech then heads up to Raleigh, N.C. this weekend for a series at NC State. Tech has already clinched its second straight ACC regular season title, but can extend its league-record conference series winning streak to 17 against the Wolfpack.
