Cubaj Tabbed to Naismith Watch List

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball forward Lorela Cubaj was one of 15 student-athletes named to the 2022 Naismith Women’s Defensive Player of the Year Watch List as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Tuesday.

Cubaj is one of four players representing the Atlantic Coast Conference, joining NC State’s Elissa Cunane, Virginia Tech’s Elizabeth Kitley and Louisville’s Emily Engstler on the prestigious watch list.

Cubaj leads the ACC, and ranks third in the nation, in rebounding, averaging 11.6 rebounds per game. She has led the Jackets in rebounding in 15 games and has recorded 13 games with double-figure rebounding totals.

Averaging 4.42 assists per game, Cubaj also ranks third in the ACC and is the only post player in the league to lead their team in assists. She has recorded seven double-doubles on the season, which ties for second in the ACC.
