OXFORD, Ala.– The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams race again on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Foothills Invitational hosted by Jacksonville State University.
The men will take on another 8k race on the JSU home course at the Oxford Lake and Recreation Center at 9:30 a.m. ET. The women will race a 5k on the course at 10:30 a.m. ET.
The men’s squad finished 18th at the Roy Griak Invitational last weekend, topping Atlantic Coast Conference foes Duke and Pittsburgh. Junior Nahom Solomon led the Jackets for the second time this season with a 66th-place finish in the 8k. The women’s club finished 23rd, led by sophomore Amy Ruiz with a time of 23:21 in the 6k.
Freshman Frank Pittman was honored as the ACC Cross Country Freshman of the Week following his performance at the Griak invitational. The Atlanta native finished 151st in the field of 263 finishers in his collegiate debut with a time of 27:12.3.
Team update: Six members of the women’s squad will travel to Oxford to race in the 5k at the Foothills Invitational. Returning junior Haley Anderson is among the six. She placed in the top seven for the Jackets at the Griak Invitational. The men will send seven from their roster. Returners Ryan Peck, Isaac Penman and Witt Nix are among those racing on Saturday morning for the Jackets.
The field: Seven Division I teams will join Georgia Tech on the course on Saturday morning. Competing along with host Jacksonville State are Mercer, Troy, Chattanooga, Austin Peay, Georgia Southern (women only) and Kennesaw State. The Jackets already raced against Kennesaw State in the season opener and topped the Owls, 15-30 on the men’s side and 20-43 on the women’s. There will also be 12 other teams and clubs running from various divisions.
