Cross Country Takes on 2016 NCAA South Regional

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams head to Tallahassee, Fla. on Friday morning to compete in the 2016 NCAA South Regional Championships. The women’s 6k starts at 8:30 a.m. followed by the men’s 10k at 9:30 a.m.

The top two teams in the region receive automatic bids to the 2016 NCAA National Championships.

Team update: Eight men will compete in the south regional for the Yellow Jackets. Nahom Solomon, who has led Tech in every meet he has competed in this season is included in the eight along with two-time ACC Freshman of the Week, Frank Pittman. They will be joined by Tanner Shaw, Mitchell Sanders, Matthew Munns, Alex Grady, Christian Bowles and Avery Bartlett. All eight men raced career-best times at the 2016 ACC Championships in October.

On the women’s side, eight Yellow jackets will race on Friday. Among those competing are sophomores Amy Ruiz and Mary Prouty who have both led the Yellow Jackets this season. The pair both raced career bests at the ACC Championships. Mary Claire Solomon, Haley Gollnick, Melissa Fairey, Rebecca Dow, Haley Stumvoll and Hayley Keadey will also compete for the Yellow Jackets Friday morning.

The field: The field on Friday consists of 21 teams from Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi. Tech will face No. 11 Mississippi and No. 26 Middle Tennessee on the men’s side and No. 14 Mississippi on the women’s along with conference opponent Florida State. Also at the meet will be in-state rival Georgia.
