Cross Country Returns to Course in Paul Short Invitational

Sept. 28, 2017

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country returns to action when it travels to Pennsylvania to participate in the Paul Short Invitational on Friday morning.

The men will compete in a 41-team, 8K field that consists of No. 10 Iona, No. 17 Georgetown and 28th-ranked Columbia, as well as fellow ACC-foe Wake Forest. In the USTFCCCA’s Week 3 rankings, the Yellow Jackets were spotted at fifth.

The women will go up against a 44-team, 5K field that features No. 15 Villanova and No. 21 Utah State as well as 24th-ranked Mississippi State and ACC members, Duke and Wake Forest.

Georgia Tech is about 20 days removed from its last appearance at the UGA Invitational, where Yellow Jacket squads finished second.

Pacing the men’s team was Nahom Solomon, who was the lone top-10 finisher at third overall with a time of 25:25.8. Alex Grady was the next to finish at 11th, while Tanner Shaw, Matt Munns and Mitchell Sanders finished 13th through 15th, respectively.

For the women’s team, Mary Prouty led all runners with a seventh-place finish. Freshman Nicole Fegans also performed well, finishing 10th while Amy Ruiz and Hailey Gollnick finished 11th and 12th, respectively.

The men are scheduled to start at 11 a.m. with the women following right after, slated to begin at 11:45 a.m.
