Courtney Shealy Hart Elected To Georgia Aquatic Hall Of Fame

July 17, 2013

THE FLATS – The Georgia Aquatic Hall of Fame has announced its 2013 class, which includes Georgia Tech head coach and two-time Olympic gold medalist Courtney Shealy Hart. The induction ceremony is set for August 24 at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek.

This will be the third class of inductees and is highlighted by five accomplished athletes from the state of Georgia.

“I’m extremely honored and humbled to be inducted to the Georgia Aquatics Hall of Fame,” said Hart, who is entering her fifth year as the Yellow Jackets’ head coach. “And it’s an even bigger thrill to share this moment with my college and Olympic teammate, Kristy Kowal. I want to congratulate all of this year’s inductees and extend my appreciation to the Georgia Aquatic Hall of Fame for the consideration.”

The inductees include Hart and Kowal, who were United States Olympians at the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney, Australia. Hart won a gold medal and set a world record in the 400m freestyle relay, and also won gold on the 400m medley relay team.

Hart and Kowal were teammates and NCAA Champions at the University of Georgia. The 2013 Georgia Aquatics Hall of Fame class also includes David Larson, Curtis Lovejoy and Billy Ray Schmidt. Former Tech swimmer and coach Herb McAuley was inducted last year.
