I can’t even began to express the excitement I am feeling as the days getter closer and closer to our first official game of the season. So many things have changed this season. We have added five new freshmen to the team, but the one thing that hasn’t changed and will never change is the drive and desire the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team has to be the best we can be. Everyday we are going hard in practice and in the class room to make ourselves better student-athletes and better individuals. I must say working so hard this offseason and this preseason has put our team at a great advantage. As a whole, we know what it is going to take get the things we want done this year. To be completely honest, it has definitely not been easy. A lot of time is sacrificed when a determined team such as ourselves sets goals that will not go unreached. I thank God for my coaching staff, our support staff, my family and friends, and my teammates because they have given me so much support these past couple of months. I’ve truly learned no matter how determined one may be alone, having a village of determined people behind them makes things so much better. For me personally, Coach Joseph and my mother have been the chiefs of my village in that they are constantly inspiring me and pushing me to be the best I can possibly be. Even when I think I’m working hard, coach pushes me harder past what I thought I could do. And even when I have doubts, she’s still there pushing me, never letting me give in. I truly feel having so many people have my back and having some of my own self motivation, I have grown tremendously as a person on and off the court.
Being that we are extremely young this year, a lot of people don’t know what to expect from us but I have no problem telling them to expect the best because that’s what we’re about. Our freshmen class has worked very hard in preparing for the upcoming season and I am so proud of them. I remember my freshman days and coming into one of the top academic Institutes and preparing to play in one of the top conferences was no where near easy. But our freshmen came in focused and ready for whatever was thrown their way.
To me, today was a very important day for the upcoming season. Before practice, we all sat down and read off what our roles on the team were. Everyone had already met with coach and today we all announced our roles. While everyone went around one by one, it was great to see how well we all embraced our roles. Everyone’s role was different but whether it was to start and play 30+ minutes or it was to play 5 minutes and be supportive and cheer your teammates on from the sideline, everyone played a part. No one was selfish. We all have the same goals in mind and we are all on the same page. This is definitely the start to a great season we are about to have.
