The Georgia Tech baseball team opens the 2008 season Feb. 22 vs. Youngstown State. Every day, leading up to the first pitch, a Yellow Jacket player blogs about the upcoming season.Today’s blog is by senior infielder Brad Feltes.
Our first game is less than a week away and the team is ready to play against other competition as good as ourselves. After yesterday’s practice, which was aimed to tune-up the team’s defensive skills, we went back to intrasquad for the duration of the weekend.
Today’s intrasquad was very competitive on both ends of the field. The hitters looked like they are getting their timing down and the defense is getting better and better each and everyday.
The main thing that I have noticed that is different from the previous years that I have played here is the atmosphere at practice. I think the coaching staff really bonds well with the players and this has carried over to our performance on the field. Right now everyone is enjoying themselves and the energy is high on the field. Thanks to the attitudes of the coaching staff, the team is looking forward to practice each and everyday. Players are getting to practice earlier and earlier, wanting to take advantage of the valuable time with the coaches.
As a position player I think, Princey and Whitey (assistant coaches Bryan Prince and Matt White) are contributing to the team more than they probably realize. They will do anything they can to make us better and are able to challenge us while we still enjoy ourselves.
Some people might doubt our staff – because they are so young — but they are able to relate better to today’s game. Overall, the chemistry between the players and the coaching staff is better than I have ever seen, which will hopefully lead to a successful season with the help of you fans.
Six days left to the opening game…… Lets hear it!! YELLOW!!! ________!!!
