Correia, Loschi and Southern Qualify for NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Georgia Tech swimming and diving had three swimmers in Rodrigo Quadros Correia, Moises Loschi and Ben Southern qualify for the 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships it was announced on Wednesday.

The championships will be held March 22-25 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and the Indiana Sports Corp. will serve as co-hosts.

Correia qualified for the championships in the 100 back with his time of 45.65. The sophomore recorded the school record time in the first leg of the 400 medley relay at the 2017 ACC Championships. His time ranks 14th in the nation overall.

Loschi will compete in the 200 breast event having turned in his Tech program record time of 1:53.08 in his runner-up finish in the finals of the ACC Championships. This marks the second straight year in which Loschi has qualified for the NCAA Championships, but the first in which he will compete in the national event having missed out on last year’s championships due to an illness. His time ranks eighth in the nation.

Southern earned a spot in the 200 fly event with his time of 1:43.01. His career best mark was also set in the finals of the ACC Championships where he finished third overall to earn all-conference honors. The senior’s time ranks 24th overall in the nation.

A total of 270 participants (235 swimmers and 35 divers) will compete in the championships. Swimmers qualified for the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered. Divers will be determined by performances achieved at the Zone Diving meets March 6-11.

ESPN3 will live stream finals sessions on Friday and Saturday. Wednesday’s evening session, Thursday’s sessions along with the morning sessions on Friday and Saturday will be streamed live on www.ncaa.com and www.indianasportscorp.org/ncaasd . Additionally, ESPNU will air a two-hour show at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 5.
