THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball (24-20, 6-12 ACC) blew by Georgia State (16-28, 5-10 Sun Belt), 6-1, thanks to a six-run second inning on Tuesday night at Mewborn Field.
Sophomore second baseman Grace Connelly highlighted the explosive inning with her second grand slam of the season while senior right hander Chandler Dennis (13-6) shut out the Panthers through the first five innings, tossing her fifth complete game of the year. The Suwanee, Ga., native finished with three strikeouts and one run allowed on three hits through seven innings of work.
Two more Yellow Jackets finished with efficient days at the plate as sophomore designated player Emma Minghini and freshman catcher Reese Hunter both went 1-for-2, with the latter picking up an RBI.

How it Happened
Following a scoreless first, Georgia Tech erupted in the top of the second with six runs. A leadoff walk opened the inning before a Minghini double moved the pair of runners into scoring position. Hunter then stepped in, putting the Yellow Jackets on the board with an RBI single through the right side. Soon after, sophomore center fielder Ella Edgmon put the ball in play to score Minghini, giving the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead. Connelly then broke the game open, launching her second grand slam of the season for a 6-0 Tech advantage. Georgia State picked up just one run for the rest of the game on an RBI double while Dennis controlled the game from the circle, securing the 6-1 Tech victory and her 12th win on the year.
