CLEMSON, S.C. (Oct. 2) – Georgia Tech junior Romain Coirault won a pair of matches in straight sets Saturday to remain undefeated in flight 1 singles play at the Clemson Fall Tennis Classic in Clemson, S.C.
Coirault defeated Wake Forest’s Michael Berger, 6-1, 7-5, and UNC Charlotte’s Ola Jonsson, 6-3, 6-2, to run his record to 3-0 on the season. He defeated Clemson’s Luis Garcia, 6-2, 6-3, on Friday, and will play for the flight 1 title on Sunday.
Freshman Roger Anderson also won twice for the Jackets on Saturday. He opened the day by beating Clemson’s Jimmy Poole, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 6 flight, and then moved into the No. 4 flight and defeated UNC Charlotte’s Johne Valente, 6-2, 6-1.
Junior Jason Jeong, junior Sergio Aguirre and redshirt freshman David Wright also posted singles victories for Tech. Jeong defeated UNC Charlotte’s Jeff Kuchma, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1, in the No. 3 flight, Aguirre toppped UNC Charlotte’s Jonathan McGovern, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and Wright defeated UNC Charlotte’s Matt Wagner 6-0,, 6-2 at No. 6.
In doubles, Tech’ s Tim Bibby and David Wright, Aguirre and Anderson, and Jeong and Robert Wright won in flights 1-3, respectively.
