Carter, Jr., Sidelined with Knee Injury

Jan. 2, 2014

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech sophomore Robert Carter, Jr., will be sidelined indefinitely due to a tear of the meniscus in his left knee, head coach Brian Gregory said Thursday.

A magnetic resonance imaging test taken Tuesday revealed the injury, which Carter, Jr., sustained during Sunday’s game at Charlotte. The 6-8 forward from Thomasville, Ga., will undergo surgery on the knee Tuesday, and his recovery timetable is unknown at this time.

“He’s a tough kid, and this hit him pretty hard,” said Gregory. “He’s done everything we’ve asked of him this year. He’s changed his body, he’s become more aggressive on the glass, and his stats clearly show that he was having a tremendous sophomore season for us. He’s a big part of what we do both offensively and defensively. We won’t know exactly what the nature of the injury is until the surgery occurs.”

Carter, Jr., is tied for the Atlantic Coast Conference lead in rebounding (9.3 per game) and is fourth on the Tech team in scoring (10.3 points per game). He has started all 44 games in his Tech career.

Tech opens Atlantic Coast Conference play Saturday when the Yellow Jackets visit Maryland for a 2 p.m. game at the Comcast Center.
