THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swimming and diving had its first student-athlete lock in their spot at the NCAA Championships on Wednesday when junior McKenzie Campbell accepted the invitation in three events.
Campbell will compete in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 fly events in her home pool when the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships takes place at the McAuley Aquatic Center on March 16-19.
The Greensboro, N.C. native broke the 200 IM program record in January when she swam an NCAA B qualifying time of 1:59.79 against Arkansas and Tulane. She then further rewrote the record book at the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships in February when she broke her own 400 IM record by 0.79 seconds, swimming a NCAA B cut 4:11.23.
Also during this year’s ACC Championships, Campbell turned in an NCAA B qualifying time and personal-best time of 1:56.29 in the 200 fly.
This is the second-straight year that Campbell has received an invite to the NCAA Division I Championships after earning the honor last year in the 400 IM and 200 fly.
