Butker to Lead First Chop at Braves’ GT Night

THE FLATS –

Georgia Tech and Kansas City Chiefs record-holding place kicker Harrison Butker will lead fans for the “First Chop” during the Atlanta Braves’ Georgia Tech Night at SunTrust Park on Friday, June 15.

Butker, Georgia Tech football’s all-time leading scorer who set nine franchise records during his rookie season with the Chiefs in 2017, will lead fans in the first Tomahawk Chop of the evening before the Braves bat in the bottom of the first inning against the San Diego Padres.

Georgia Tech’s starting place kicker from 2013-16, Butker holds the school records for points (337) and PATs (208) in a career. He also ranks third in Yellow Jackets history in career field-goal percentage (.717) and fifth in career field goals made (43). He graduated from Tech in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering.

Selected by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round of the 2017 National Football League Draft, Butker was claimed by the Chiefs off the Panthers’ practice squad prior to Week 4 of the 2017 season. He set nine franchise records — including most field goals (38) and kicking points (142) in a season — despite playing in only 13 regular-season games. The Decatur, Ga. native was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week (after kicking five field goals in a 29-19 win over the Denver Broncos on Oct. 30), AFC Special Teams Player of the Month (October) and kicker on the 2017 Professional Football Writers Association all-rookie team.

Georgia Tech Night ticket packages for the June 15 Braves-Padres game at SunTrust Park are SOLD OUT, with the Braves donating $3 from each of those packages to the Alexander-Tharpe Fund. While the Georgia Tech Night packages are sold out, game tickets can still be purchased at braves.com.
