Braun Named to Campbell Award Watch List

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech football junior guard Parker Braun is one of 47 student-athletes on the official watch list for the 2018 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, the Tyler (Texas) Area Chamber of Commerce announced on Tuesday.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award is presented annually to the top offensive student-athlete in NCAA Division I football who was born in, played high-school football in or plays college football in the state of Texas.

Braun, who played his final season of high-school football at Hallsville (Texas) H.S., has established himself as one of the nation’s best offensive linemen over the course of his two-year career at Georgia Tech. He has started each of the last 19 games for the Yellow Jackets at left guard, including all 11 as a sophomore last season, when he was named first-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference.

He was a key cog in an offensive front that helped pave the way for Georgia Tech to lead the ACC and rank fifth nationally in rushing offense (307.4 ypg), set a school record with four 400-yard rushing games and feature two 1,000-yard rushers (QB TaQuon Marshall and BB KirVonte Benson) in 2017. He was named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week for the second time in his young career after he took 22 defenders to the ground (one every 3.4 snaps) and helped the Yellow Jackets rush for 436 yards in a 35-17 win over Pitt on Sept. 23 of last year.

In addition to being a first-team all-ACC selection, Braun is also a two-time academic all-conference honoree.

Semifinalists for the Campbell Award will be announced in November and finalists selected in December. The award will be presented at the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award banquet on Jan. 9, 2019 in Tyler, Texas.

Braun and the Yellow Jackets open the 2018 season on Sept. 1 versus Alcorn State. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

2018 Georgia Tech football season tickets, ACC Flex Packs, Stinger Mobile Passes and single-game tickets are all on sale. Season tickets (starting at just $219 for all six games on Tech’s home schedule) and ACC Flex Packs (starting at just $130 for three ACC contests) are the best way to secure the best seats in Bobby Dodd Stadium while the Stinger Mobile Pass guarantees a seat for all six games for only $149. Single-game tickets start at $15 for non-conference games versus Alcorn State and Bowling Green (Sept. 29) and $35 for ACC showdowns versus Clemson (Sept. 22), Duke (Homecoming – Oct. 13), Miami (Whiteout – Nov. 10) and Virginia (Nov. 17).
