GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Georgia Tech junior outfielder Brandon Thomas was named to the Capital One Academic All-America second team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Friday.
It is the fourth straight year a Yellow Jacket has been named to the Academic All-America team, after former shortstop Derek Dietrich earned the honors in 2009 and 2010, and Jacob Esch was named last season.
Thomas, a first team All-ACC pick and a member of the ACC All-Tournament Team, is batting a team-best .352 with 15 doubles, a triple, four home runs and 41 RBI. The five-tool junior, who among Baseball America’s top 100 prospects entering next week’s Major League Baseball Draft, also has 12 stolen bases and is among the ACC leaders with a .478 on-base percentage.
A native of Atlanta and graduate of Pace Academy, Thomas is a management major who maintains a 3.66 grade point average.
The ACC Champion Yellow Jackets open play in the NCAA Gainesville Regional on Friday versus the College of Charleston.
