Georgia Tech baseball standout Steven Blackwood was named to the Academic All-District III baseball first team, while Aileen Morales made the Academic All-District III second team for softball.
Blackwood, a senior from Roswell, Ga., earns Academic All-District honors for the third straight year. He is now eligible for the Academic All-America baseball team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A four-year starter in the Tech outfield, Blackwood is a two-time all-Atlantic Coast Conference selection with a career batting average of .333. He has over 200 runs batted in and 200 runs scored in his career.
Recently awarded an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship, the Biology major plans to attend medical school. Other off-the-field accolades Blackwood include the ACC Academic Honor Roll, the ACC Top Six for Service Award, Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Scholarship, and “Peach of an an Athlete” recognition by the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Morales, a sophomore second baseman from Columbus, Ga., earns Academic All-District honors for the first time. The 2005 ACC Rookie of the Year is batting .261 with 31 RBI, 49 runs scored and an ACC-leading 29 stolen bases.
