Bertolino Collects Third ACC Freshman of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman outside hitter Bianca Bertolino has been named ACC Freshman of the Week for the third time this season after helping propel No. 13 Georgia Tech volleyball to another flawless ACC weekend, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Prior to the recognition, Bertolino was named ACC Freshman of the Week following her first two weekends of collegiate action for her strong performances in the UCF Challenge and Long Beach State Tournament.

Bertolino receives the honor after aiding Georgia Tech in a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference play sweeps as the Jackets breezed by Clemson on the road before returning home to in turn send Duke packing. The Argentinian was a key contributor for the White and Gold on both sides of the net as she tallied the third most kills on the squad with 16 while compiling the second most digs on the team with 17 through both contests. Bertolino attacked efficiently at a .419 clip and picked up a pair of aces to average 2.67 kills per set while adding a pair total blocks (one solo, one assisted) to bolster her defensive presence.

Against Clemson, Bertolino picked up her seventh double double of the year behind 10 kills (third on the team) and 10 digs (second on the squad) with a .444 hitting percentage and two aces. The outside hitter followed that with six kills (.385 hitting percentage), seven digs and a pair of blocks (one solo, one assisted) in Tech’s quick sweep over Duke.

On the season, Bertolino currently owns the third most kills for the Jackets with 179 (2.80 per set) at a .259 clip while leading the team in digs, also with 179. The young Jacket is tied for the third most total blocks on the squad with 30 (11 solo, 19 assisted) as well.
