Bartlett Punches Ticket to Oregon at East Prelims

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Georgia Tech track and field continued competition at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Friday with sophomore Avery Bartlett punching his ticket to Eugene, Ore. for the NCAA Championships. Competition wraps up on Saturday starting at 2 p.m.

Bartlett raced a career-best time of 1:47.74 in the 800m quarterfinals to take second in his heat, earning him the automatic qualification. His time ranked third overall. On Thursday he finished second in his heat as well to gain entry into Friday’s quarterfinal races.

Andreas Ward competed in the men’s 110m hurdles, posting a time of 13.46 but did not advance to the quarterfinals. Zachary Gunnz raced a time of 21.24 in the 200m but did not advance to the finals. Alex Grady wrapped up the day for the men, crossing the line at 9:03.55 to finish ninth in his heat. Grady did not advance.

Sophomore Jeanine Williams advanced to Saturday’s women’s 100m hurdles quarterfinals. She posted a time of 13.35 to finish first in her heat with an automatic qualification and 10th-best time overall. Kenya Collins also raced in the 100m hurdles, missing qualifying by two spots and .02 seconds with a time of 13.53.
