THE FLATS – After leading Georgia Tech in its opening week of ACC play, freshman guard Elizabeth Balogun has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office Monday. This marks the third weekly honor for Balogun this season.
Balogun opened the week with a dominating performance at Boston College on Thursday to lead the Yellow Jackets to their first ACC win of the season. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native dropped a team-high 18 points and secured a career-high 17 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double.
She followed that performance with a team-high 14 points against No. 2 Notre Dame on Sunday to help the Jackets go 1-1 to open league play. Over the two games, Balogun paced the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.0 points and 9.5 rebounds.
For the season, Balogun has earned the start in all 15 games and leads the team in scoring with a 14.7 points per game average.
Georgia Tech returns to the hardwood on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. when they host Duke on ACC Network Extra.
