THE FLATS – In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Georgia Tech athletics will host a Title IX Weekend Celebration, Sept. 9-11. Featuring several events, the festivities will be highlighted by an all-female panel Friday night.
Georgia Tech will welcome back several prominent former letterwinners and coaches on Friday night to participate in a Title IX panel, sharing stories, experiences and advice. Returning to The Flats to take part in the panel will be:
- Chaunte Lowé (track and field)
- Bernadette McGlade (former women’s basketball head coach)
- Monique Mead (volleyball)
- Kristi Miller-North (women’s tennis)
- Jenny Lentz Moore (swimming and diving/track and field)
- Aileen Morales (softball)
- Dianna Shelander (diving)
The panel will be held at the Georgia Tech Library to showcase a Title IX Exhibit curated by the Georgia Tech Library Archives and Special Collections. A seven-panel exhibit will be featured on the third floor in Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons, showcasing Title IX’s impact on higher education and Georgia Tech.
The panelists will be recognized on field during Georgia Tech football’s home opener versus Western Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 10 during ATL Day. Festivities will continue at volleyball on Sunday when the Yellow Jackets take on Ohio State in the Georgia Tech Classic for a ‘Title IX’ match featuring a themed giveaway.
Georgia Tech athletics has celebrated Title IX all year to mark the 50th anniversary of the landmark legislation being passed by Congress.
