THE FLATS – Junior shortstop Ashley Thomas of the Georgia Tech softball team was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Southeast Region second team as announced by the NFCA Thursday. The honor is the third for Thomas.
The 2013 ACC Player of the Year, Thomas finished the regular season leading Georgia Tech and the ACC in batting average (.417), hits (75) and stolen bases (37). Her batting average is the fifth-best all-time at Tech in a single season, and her 37 stolen bases combined with her career total boosted her to fifth on the Georgia Tech career charts in the category (91).
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2013 NFCA Division I All-American teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
