GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech freshman second baseman Ashley Thomas has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Thomas is the fifth different Yellow Jacket to win a player of the week award this season.
Thomas, who is riding a career-high nine game hitting streak, batted .545 (6-for-11) in a weekend sweep of Boston College as the Yellow Jackets clinched their third straight ACC regular season title and won their league-record 23rd consecutive series.
Thomas scored four runs in the three games against BC last week and had two hits in each game. In the second game of the series which clinched the regular season title, the McKinney, Texas native had a double, triple and career-high three RBI. In addition, Thomas stole a base in each game.
Thomas and the Yellow Jackets close out the regular season this weekend against Florida State at Mewborn Field. The Yellow Jackets and Seminoles will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and then close out the series Sunday at 1 p.m. Live video, blog, audio and stats will be available at RamblinWreck.com.
