Anderson, Hosier, Jack & Nott Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA-Tennis stars Kelly Anderson and West Nott join softball player Amy Hosier and Tech point guard Jarrett Jack as the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, March 8, 2004.

Anderson, a sophomore from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, helped Georgia Tech to a perfect 2-0 start in ACC play, going 2-0 in both doubles and singles against 29th ranked Wake Forest and No. 75 NC State this past weekend. She dropped a total of just eight games in her straight set victories against ACC opponents Katie Martzolf (Wake Forest) and Kristin Lam (NC State). Teamed up with Sekita Grant to defeat the 47th ranked duo of Coetzee and Martzolf (Wake Forest). She went 3-0 (2-0 ACC) in singles play, while going 2-1 (2-0 ACC) in doubles play on the week.

Hosier, a sophomore from Lakewood, Colo., led the 24th-ranked Yellow Jackets to a runner-up finish at the Hillenbrand Invitational at Arizona. Tech opened up tournament play against UTEP, where Hosier went 1-for-3, with a double and two runs batted in. The outfielder tallied her second double of the tournament against Northern Iowa, finishing 2-for-3 in a 7-0 win over the Panthers. The Lakewood, Colo., native then went 1-for-2, with a walk against Indiana in Tech’s 7-0 win over the Hoosiers. Earlier in the week, Hosier led the Jackets to a split against Georgia Southern, going 3-for-6, with three RBIs and a double. Hosier leads the team with eight doubles this season and hit .412 (7-17) for the week, with five RBI, three doubles and three walks.

Jack, a sophomore from Fort Washington, Md., averaged 16.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in leading the No. 19 Yellow Jackets to victories last week over No. 3 Duke (76-68 in Durham) and Florida State (63-60 in Atlanta), which lifted Tech to a 9-7 final record in the ACC and 22-8 overall. He scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in Tech’s win at Duke, hitting 7 of 8 free throws to help seal Tech’s fourth road win of the year in the conference. Against FSU, Jack scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, the most by a Tech guard since Brian Oliver in the late 1980s. He also had six assists and just one turnover while playing a season-high 37 minutes, went 6 of 12 from the floor and 5 of 8 from the free throw line.

Nott, a senior from Midland, Mich., helped Tech to wins over No. 45 Oregon and No. 27 Minnesota last week. He posted a 2-0 record in singles and 1-1 record in doubles. His 6-3, 7-5 win over Thomas Bieri of Oregon clinched the victory for Tech over the Ducks.
