BLACKSBURG, Va. – – Sophomore Janae Anderson and junior Tiffany Grant led the Georgia Tech track & field teams with second place finishes on day one of the Virginia Tech Elite Invitational Friday at the Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.
Anderson’s 7.54 in the 60 meter dash was the second fastest time in the finals as she was just .10 away from an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark. The Knoxville, Tenn. native also posted a fifth place finish in the 200 meter dash on the day.
Grant’s second place finish came in the 400 meter dash, with a time of 56.21. She also competed in the 200 meter dash, finishing just behind Anderson in sixth place.
Former Yellow Jacket All-American and current Olympian Chaunte Howard was also in competition at the meet, taking first in the high jump with a 1.86.
On the men’s side, junior Alphonso Jordan posted the best qualifying time in the 60 meter hurdles with a 8.03, but his 8.09 in the finals gave him a fourth place finish.
Jordan added a sixth place finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.32 meters. Senior Dave Ford also competed in the 60 meter hurdles Friday, grabbing a fifth place finish with an 8.10 mark.
The Jackets resume competition Saturday at 11 a.m. with the men’s high jump and women’s pole vault.
