Tennis standout Kelly Anderson, all-Atlantic Coast Conference outfielder Steven Blackwood, and all-ACC football player Chris Reis were honored as positive role models at the annual Peach of an Athlete awards banquet, sponsored by the Atlanta Area Council of the Boys Scouts of America.
Anderson, a senior from South Africa, was the female winner of the Peach of an Athlete role model award, while Blackwood and Reis were recognized as nominees for the award.
Anderson is an all-ACC and nationally-ranked singles player for the Tech women’s tennis team, currently ranked 10th in the nation. She’s a Dean’s List student who participates in community service activities.
Blackwood is a two-time all-conference selection for the Yellow Jackets nationally-ranked baseball team. Also active in outreach projects, he was recently awarded a postgraduate scholarship by the ACC, which he plans to use to attend medical school.
Reis, an all-ACC honoree who finished his Tech career last fall, is a three-time member of the ACC All-Academic football team. He served on the Tech Student-Athlete Advisory Board.
Tech head basketball coach Paul Hewitt received the Bobby Jones Award, which recognizes role models among professional athletes, coaches and executives.
