Akin, Curry to be Inducted into Agnes Scott Hall

Decatur, Ga. – Former Georgia Tech head football coach Bill Curry and current senior associate director of athletics Joeleen Akin are part of the inaugural class of the Athletics Hall of Fame at Agnes Scott College, the department of athletics announced Tuesday. They will be enshrined on November 5.

Curry and his wife, Carolyn, an Agnes Scott alumna, are being inducted as Legacy Honorees for their involvement as founding members of the Agnes Scott Athletics Advisory Board. Curry’s involvement connected Agnes Scott, an NCAA Division III women’s college in Decatur, GA, to the vibrant sports community in Atlanta. The Curry’s supported many of the initiatives to elevate the visibility of the sports program and supported fundraising campaigns to provide resources to sustain the growth.

Curry, a member of the football team at Georgia Tech in the early 1960s who went on to play in the NFL for the Baltimore Colts and Green Bay Packers, was Tech’s head football coach from 1980-86.

Akin served in multiple capacities at Agnes Scott over her 13-year career including director of athletics, head basketball coach, chair of physical education, and associate dean for athletics and student activities. During her tenure, Agnes Scott athletics produced eight NCAA Tournament teams. Her trademarked “Smart Women Sweat” tagline increased visibility for the athletic program and she spearheaded many of the facility upgrades and endowment campaigns that the department still relishes today.

Akin, a veteran of more than 20 years in college athletics, joined the Georgia Tech athletics staff in July of 2016 and currently serves as senior associate director of athletics for student-athlete development and senior woman administrator.

Agnes Scott Athletics has a history in sports that dates back to 1897. The legacy of Agnes Scott Athletics will be forever enshrined November 5-6, 2021 on the historic campus of Agnes Scott College. The Hall of Fame Class of 2021 inductees include:
