ACC Play Kicks Into Full Gear As Volleyball Travels To Face Duke And Wake Forest

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech Volleyball team (7-4, 0-1 ACC) looks to rebound from a 3-0 loss at Clemson last Friday night in the ACC opener as it makes the first of two trips to the state of North Carolina this weekend. Tech will face Duke (6-4, 0-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium and then Wake Forest (4-6, 1-0) Saturday at 5 p.m.

Tech is 19-37 all-time against Duke and has lost five straight matches in the series. The Jackets’ last win was 3-1 on Nov. 8, 2007 when the Blue Devils were ranked No. 14. Duke won both meetings last season, 3-0 on Oct. 30 in Durham, N.C. and 3-2 on Sept. 24 at O’Keefe Gym.

The Yellow Jackets are 26-9 all-time against Wake Forest after splitting the season-series last year as each team won 3-0 on its opponents home floor. Tech has won seven of the last eight against the Demon Deacons.

Junior Monique Mead continues to lead the nation with 5.44 kills per set and 6.16 points per set. The Newnan, Ga., native has five double-doubles this season, seven matches with at least 20 kills and has recorded double figure kills in each match this season. Mead is also averaging 2.83 digs per set and 0.93 blocks.

Mead just recorded her 1,000th career kill in the Sept. 9 win over Georgia.

Freshman Ali Santi is third in the ACC dishing out 10.83 assists per set and is also averaging 2.83 digs per set. She has three double-doubles this season. Sophomore Kaleigh Colson has also seen time as the setter and is handing out 9.56 assists to go along with 2.17 digs.

Sophomore Jennifer Percy is second on the team with 2.00 kills per set while junior Nicki Meyer leads the way with 3.24 digs. Senior Asia Stawicka leads the team and is seventh in the ACC in blocking at 1.10 a set.
