#27 Tech Drops Match to #9 Virginia, 4-2

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team (8-7, 5-4 ACC) fell at #9 Virginia (14-4, 8-1 ACC) at the Snyder Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.

“I think that our team played well,” head coach Rodney Harmon said. “After some good practices and some soul searching, we are starting to find our game. I think that we are looking forward to playing the rest of our matches. I think we are on an upward projectile.”

Senior Muriel Wacker and freshman Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer both won their singles matches. On court five, Wacker recorded her third-straight singles win, defeating Maci Epstein, 6-2, 6-2. Wacker owns a team-best 8-1 conference singles record.

Anton-Ohlmeyer faced Li Xi on court six and defeated Xi in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-3.

The Yellow Jackets started off the match down, 1-0, after losing the doubles point to the Cavaliers. Virginia’s Xi and Stephanie Nauta recorded an 8-3 win on court two against Natasha Prokhnevska and Wacker. The Cavaliers’ duo of Danielle Collins and Epstein clinched the doubles point after defeating Anton-Ohlmeyer and freshman Rasheeda McAdoo, 8-4.

Virginia’s three singles wins came on court two, one and four against the Jackets. On court two, Prokhenvska suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss to #33 Collins.

The Jackets then tied up the match, 2-2, with Wacker’s and Anton-Ohlmeyer’s singles victories.

Woodard fell to #3 Julia Elbaba at the number one spot, 6-3, 6-4. The Cavaliers captured the win when #50 Pierson defeated McAdoo, 6-3, 6-0, on court four.
