2018-19 Women’s Basketball Non-Conference Slate Unveiled

THE FLATS – Highlighted by six home games, two tournaments and a visit from in-state rival Georgia, the 2018-19 Georgia Tech women’s basketball non-conference schedule was unveiled on Thursday.

Of Tech’s 13 non-conference foes, six teams reached postseason play last season. Four opponents participated in the NCAA Tournament – Georgia, George Washington, Maryland and Dayton. The Lady Bulldogs and Terrapins advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round, while Houston and Seton Hall secured WNIT berths.

“I am very excited about our non-conference schedule this season,” said head coach MaChelle Joseph. “In addition to playing in the best women’s basketball conference in the country, the ACC, we will play a very competitive non-conference slate. There are six teams on our non-conference schedule that played in the postseason last season which presents a challenging schedule for our young team.”

Tech will open the 2018-19 season with an exhibition contest against Coastal Georgia on Nov. 4 in McCamish Pavilion before officially kicking off the season by visiting the Houston Cougars on Nov. 9. The American Athletic Conference foe posted a 20-12 overall record last year to secure a berth to the WNIT.

Following the Jackets’ visit to the Lone Star State, Tech returns to open a three-game homestand in McCamish Pavilion. The Jackets officially open the home portion of the 2018-19 slate on Nov. 11, welcoming Appalachian State. Western Carolina visits for a midweek matchup on Nov. 14 before in-state rival Georgia closes out the homestand on Nov. 18. Tech will meet its second postseason opponent in the Lady Bulldogs as Georgia posted a 26-7 overall record in 2017-18 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Jackets will spend Thanksgiving in Mexico as they head to Cancun to participate in the Cancun Challenge. Tech will play two games in Cancun, meeting George Washington (Nov. 22) and Idaho State (Nov. 23) on the Yucatan Peninsula.

The road swing will continue for Tech upon return from Mexico, as the Jackets visit Maryland on Nov. 29 for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge before returning to Atlanta. Tech will meet cross-town foe Georgia State on December 2 to cap the four-game road swing.

The Jackets will bookend finals week hosting Alabama State on Dec. 5 and Kennesaw State on Dec. 16 before heading to West Palm Beach, Fla., for the West Palm Invitational. Tech will meet a pair of postseason squads in the Sunshine State, facing Seton Hall (Dec. 20) and Dayton (Dec. 21). The two-day tournament will take place on the campus of Keiser University.

Tech will conclude non-conference play on Dec. 30, welcoming Wofford to McCamish Pavilion.

Tech’s full schedule, along with game times, will be announced at a later date.
