ATLANTA – Tenth-ranked Minnesota downed host Georgia Tech in four games on September 8 at O’Keefe Gymnasium in the 2000 Georgia Tech Classic, 15-7, 15-1, 3-15, 15-8.
The Golden Gophers (6-0) were paced by Nicole Branagh, who tallied a match-high 15 kills, and setter Lindsey Berg who compiled 45 assists.
After pulling away late in game one, Minnesota posted a .611 attack percentage in game two, en route to a 15-1 win, and 2-0 lead in the match.
Tech (4-1) rallied in game three, winning 15-3, before Minnesota took game four, 15-8, to close out the match.
The Jackets were led by junior outside hitter Maja Pachale, who notched 14 kills, while freshman setter Kele Eveland had 39 assists.
In Friday’s first game of the tournament, Minnesota downed Coastal Carolina 3-0, (15-7, 15-7, 15-13), while 11th-ranked Pacific downed Coastal Carolina 3-0 (15-0, 15-9, 15-3) in the day’s second match.
Play continues in the 2000 Georgia Tech Classic on Saturday morning, as the Yellow Jackets will face Coastal Carolina at 10 a.m., while Minnesota and Pacific will square off at noon. Tech and Pacific will close out the tournament with a 2 p.m. match on Sunday afternoon.
